Accelerated Formation of a New Cross-Functional Team

Building team identity to jumpstart connection & delivery.

The Challenge
An ambitious director had just brought together a new cross-functional team - experts and managers from previously siloed units, some new to the organization and some new to each other. With no shared history or language for collaboration, the risk was high: drift, misalignment, and slow progress.

The director had a different vision. He wanted this group to start strong, with clarity, connection, and a common purpose. He brought in Corentus to facilitate a structured team startup experience.

Getting the Language Right
As part of a two-day offsite, woven into the team’s real work, Corentus provided a crash course in team models and teaming concepts. This wasn’t theory for theory’s sake, it was a way to build a common foundation. Participants were introduced to the team life cycle and engaged in exercises that surfaced unspoken assumptions and normalized the experience of early-stage friction.

Clarifying Shared Purpose
In the day two Corentus-led session, the group dove into purpose. Why had these functions been brought together? What did success look like, not for individuals, but for the whole?

By the end of the session, something had shifted. Team members no longer identified with their former silos. They began seeing themselves as part of a single, unified entity. High fives replaced hesitation.

A Repeatable Formula
This wasn’t a one-off. The director, now a VP, has since repeated the process with each new team he has built, supported by a Corentus team coach. As he puts it, “If you help people drop old identities and co-create a shared one, the possibilities become real.”
