KEY INSIGHTS | from our First Friday with a Thought Leader Event*
Ashish Kothari, “ Unlocking Full Potential at the Individual, and Organizational Level Through Investing in Human Flourishing”
The Case for Flourishing: In today’s complex and challenging environment, flourishing is essential for team and organizational success. Leaders must prioritize well-being to achieve optimal performance. Ashish stated, "How can you actually not fundamentally make flourishing be a priority number one, if not two or three, like, how can you actually achieve the results you want to achieve with your teams and your organizations without fundamentally checking in and making a difference and making sure your people are flourishing?"
Overcoming Negativity Bias: Our brains are hardwired for fear and negativity due to evolutionary conditioning. Intentional practices like gratitude and emotional regulation are crucial for rewiring our neural pathways and fostering happiness.
The Power of Gratitude: Gratitude practice can lead to significant improvements in well-being within weeks.
It counteracts negativity bias and hedonic adaptation.
Simple team practices like expressing gratitude during status reports and writing appreciation letters can create a ripple effect of positivity.
Ashish shared, "Being valued by teams and companies is one of the biggest reasons, based on the research we did at McKinsey on why people leave and through this one simple act every week, you have the ability to create a huge ripple effect of positivity and helping people get value, feel valued, appreciated, seen for what they are doing."
Mastering Emotions: Recognizing and shifting negative moods is vital for effective teamwork.
Ashish highlighted the importance of regulating anger, suggesting five practical approaches: deep breaths, reframing perspectives, connecting with empathy, physical movement, and discussing feelings with a partner.
Building Habits for Happiness: Ashish introduced his Foundations masterclass, which offers 26 micro-practices designed to integrate the nine principles of the sunflower model into daily life. He emphasized the power of team accountability and support in fostering lasting change.
"If we intentionally engage in these practices as individuals and as teams, we can, over time, start to experience the world differently and achieve different outcomes. We truly can as teams achieve more, not by doing more, but by being more."
