Up-front time and attention can greatly increase a team’s potential
TEAM FORMATIONS & LAUNCHES
Time and attention devoted up-front to forming and launching a team can greatly increase that team’s potential for efficiency, effectiveness, and overall success.
For new teams, reconfigurable teams, or just-in-time teaming environment. This program may also be utilized with existing teams wishing to clarify, change, or update one or more aspects of their original team charter.
Components may include any or all of the following:
Common Purpose
The team explores, clearly defines, and commits to their common purpose: the compelling reason why they need to work as a team.Team Scope
With their common purpose clarified, the team identifies their desired scope: how they should best distribute their collective efforts across visionary, strategic, operational, and tactical work.Shared Goals
Building from their common purpose and scope, the team clarifies and articulates the shared goals that they will work toward collectively. This generally includes specific measures, targets, due dates, and owners for each shared goal.Work Products & Responsibility Charting
Deliverables produced by the team get identified by general work category, specific work product types (Collective, Sub-Group, Individual), and team-oriented RACI designations (Accountable, Responsible, Consulted, and Informed).Team Membership & Roles
Team common purpose, scope, goals and work products help to determine the right composition and necessary work roles within the team. Teams may also wish to assess their distribution of behavioral roles: individual preferences for how to behave and contribute within the team. For some teams, careful consideration of team requirements leads to shifts in team membership.Corentus i4 Team Forming™
The team co-designs and engages in a process to help all individuals transition fully into their roles as members of the team—with a focus on understanding each person’s identity, integration, influence, and individual goals (i4) and exploring how these factors play out within the team.Meeting Cadence
Rather than reverting to a general catch-all standing team meeting, the team deliberately defines a customized meeting cadence for the full team and/or subgroups. Each meeting is defined by its purpose (including the scope of work it covers), desired outcomes, participants, owner, duration and frequency.Norms
All members agree upon and commit to initial guidelines for team attitudes and behaviors (to be updated and added to over time).Team Charter
The team integrates any or all of the components listed above into a formalized team charter document.
