BENEFITS of Corentus TLS

  • Delivered in an Innovative Microtool format

    What are microtools?

At Corentus, we have developed a wide range of team tools: practical sets of ideas, methods, and practices you can use to improve particular areas of team functioning—such as decision making, accountability, or state of mind.

Over decades of work applying and teaching these tools around the world, we’ve found that clients often benefit most from a microtool format. Each microtool focuses on a bite-sized piece of content, providing clear, specific guidance on a single topic (such as how to make clear requests) that you can put into practice right away. All of the microtools within a larger tool support and complement one another, but can also be used as independent, self-contained modules.

Certificate of Completion for each Course — a formal acknowledgment of your accomplishment.

Additional Benefits include:

  • A simple, reliable, intuitive, and engaging learning platform

  • Easy access via computer or mobile phone

  • Corentus Utility Packs™ — printable .pdf document featuring key highlights and takeaways from each microtool, an easy-to-use reference to keep at your fingertips

  • Discussion board for asking questions and sharing experiences with fellow participants

  • Certificate of Completion — a formal acknowledgement of your accomplishment in successfully completing the course, helpful in highlighting your new knowledge and skills with employers, on your resume, within your Linkedin profile, and on social media

Seven Microtools from the Corentus Team Tool Accountability

Accountability is a cornerstone of effective teamwork. Accountable team members generate respect, drive performance, and produce results. The key to success is establishing a process to ensure that clear, focused commitments are made and kept—and, in cases where they are not kept, are dealt with in a constructive, productive manner.

Corentus TLS: Course descriptions listed below

For leaders, teams, and organizations looking for quick learning modules that can be applied right away, we’ve divided our extensive Accountability curriculum into a series of seven microtools.

You can choose to learn just one microtool; the Full Collection of seven microtools; or any other combination that meets your needs.

Each microtool course focuses on one specific key aspect of accountability, such as making clear requests or managing breakdowns.

You’ll learn concrete steps you can take to decrease derailers (thereby lowering stress and frustration) and increase the likelihood of follow-through and successful completion (increasing your sense of accomplishment, fulfillment, team cohesion, and even joy at work).

SEVEN MICROTOOLS FROM THE CORENTUS TEAM TOOL: ACCOUNTABILITY

  1. Making Clear Requests

  2. Clear Requests vs Soft Asks

  3. Transforming Complaints

  4. Clear Agreements vs Hedging

  5. Linking Agreements to Consequences

  6. "I" Statement Feedback

  7. Accountability Breakdown Protocol

Making Clear Requests
The foundation of accountability is making requests clearly articulating what action you want to be generated. This microtool clarifies the five key characteristics of a clear request: targeted, actionable, specific, time-bound, and negotiable.

Clear Requests vs Soft Asks
All too often, people believe they’ve asked for something clearly, when they’ve actually communicated a vague “soft ask.” This microtool illustrates the distinctions between those different ways of communicating, including the impact they have on others, and provides guidelines for bringing more clarity to your communication.

Transforming Complaints
Behind every complaint lives an unspoken request. There’s something the person wants, but they’re not asking for it directly. This microtool demonstrates how to translate complaints into clear requests or direct action, making it much more likely that issues will get resolved in mutually beneficial ways.

Clear Agreements vs Hedging
The difference between strong and weak accountability is closely tied to the presence or absence of clear agreements. In this microtool, you will learn how to differentiate a clear agreement from a vague, indirect “hedge.” You’ll also improve your ability to clarify your own commitments and to elicit more direct commitments from others.

Linking Agreements with Consequences
To make a truly informed agreement, it is essential to understand the consequences of violating that agreement. What will happen if you do not do what you committed to do? Articulating consequences up front promotes buy-in, ownership, and follow-through. In this course, you’ll learn the distinctions between natural, logical, and arbitrary consequences, as well as the typical responses that each type tends to elicit, so you can make conscious, informed choices about the use of consequences within your team.

“I” Statement Feedback
One of the most challenging types of communication is giving constructive feedback about an individual’s behavior. It can be difficult to have these conversations in an honest and direct way without seeming judgmental, accusatory, or threatening. This microtool provides a structured yet flexible protocol for giving behavior-based feedback that maximizes the potential for mutual understanding and collaborative problem solving. The same protocol can be used to increase the effectiveness of positive feedback as well.

Accountability Breakdown Protocol
Accountability breakdowns—failures to deliver on commitments as promised—can fracture a team. However, when managed effectively through the use of mutual accountability principles, this type of experience can be a powerful source of learning and growth. The Accountability Breakdown Protocol provides practical guidelines for an effective conversation that fosters mutual understanding, individual and collective learning, and positive change for the future.

ENGAGE WITH CORENTUS
Engage with Corentus in a way that works for you, your team, and your organization.

  • Choose Accountability as a Team Coaching Focus Area
Many of our team coaching clients select accountability as a key focus area: a specific area of functioning in which they wish to improve their collective awareness, skills, and results. Within a team coaching engagement, your team coach along with the team leader and team members can observe their interactions around accountability in real time, in the context of real work—and then make immediate shifts to achieve better outcomes. Shifting just one or two unconstructive team habits (for instance, changing “soft asks” and “hedges” to clear requests and agreements) can often transform a team’s performance, while also boosting morale and team cohesion. Learn more about our team coaching engagements here.

  • Learning Sessions and Speaking Engagements
Aside from team coaching, there are a variety of other ways to engage your team, department, or entire organization in real-time learning on Accountability. Examples include:

    • Stand-alone training on one or more micro-tools, with interactive exercises and activities

    • Training followed a facilitated work session (e.g., training on clear requests and agreements, followed by a work session leading to specific team commitments)

    • Training and/or facilitated sessions incorporated into a larger team retreat or leadership development program (designed and delivered by Corentus in whole or in part)

    • Keynote speeches on one or more elements of Accountability

    • You may wish to combine our Accountability content with other complementary Corentus tools. Check out this select set of tools from the Corentus Team Toolkit.
